Preparation: Soak your pigeon peas for a minimum of 30 minutes to 4 hours. Then boil them in the pressure cooker for 8 minutes, in the pressure cooker it hardly takes longer to prepare. Please always wash beans and peas thoroughly with clear water before boiling them!
Fun Fact: Toor Dal were known as ‘pigeon peas’ by the British. For them, the small beans were not a valid source of protein, they themselves clearly preferred the meat. So they named the peas after the animal they seemed to love: the dove! We are relieved that they continued to be prepared as a tasty specialty in India. We wouldn’t want to miss them!
Storage: Store your pigeon peas in an airtight, dry container in your pantry or other cool, dark place.
